This is a good review book for the standardized tests for admission to secondary schools. It has separate sections for the two tests, content review and strategic advice as well as references for more study resources. It also offers a "Higher Score Guarantee." If you can get your student to actually use the book to it's full potential, I don't doubt they will improve their score for their trouble.

The practice test questions are each followed by detailed answer explanations. If you miss a question, it's important that you are able to understand the nature of your mistake and how to avoid making it again in the future. The answer explanations will help you to learn from your mistakes and overcome them.
The information in the book is organized well and the explanations are to the point. This book will definitely help you get a grasp of some of the tricks and techniques for picking the correct answer. The book was easy to understand for a 12 year old. I would suggest people buy separate books for reading, writing strategies, and a separate book for Math practice after finishing this book.

ery helpful! Great to have the practice tests and the list of vocabulary words! Well worth it, especially if your child is not used to taking a lot of standardized tests. Learning, for example, whether to guess or not, or how to dissect the analogies, or what's expected on the math problems is quite useful.

Students can improve their test-taking skills--and their chances of getting into the high school of their choice-- by taking the book’s two practice SSAT exams or its two practice ISEE exams. All test questions are answered and explained.
As a test prep tutor, I try all the texts. There are fewer choices for the ISEE and SSAT than for the SAT, but a lot of variation among the main competitors. Barron's text is excellent and generally much better than all the others. The math section, in particular, is practically a textbook, not just review. Higly recommended. Be aware, though, that this workbook only covers the high school tests, not the lower levels.
